Certificate in Colposcopy. June 2002. Website: http://www.cme.hu/
UPDATE - 12/21/04
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related
mortality in the African country.
As colposcopy is an invaluable tool in managing carcinoma of
the uterine cervix, it was felt appropriate to provide some
African countries with 100 copies of the recently published
EAGC Course Book on Colposcopy published by the European Academy
of Gynaecological Cancer (EAGC) for educational purposes in
order to improve care of women with gynecologic malignancies.
This is part of the worldwide fight against cancer of the lower
genital tract lead by the International Federation of Cervical
Pathology and Colposcopy, IFCPC. (See attached letter by Howard
W. Jones III MD.)
The following countries have
received the books, which was highly appreciated:
Algeria 16 copies; Egypt 24 copies; Morocco 8 copies; Namibia
7 copies; Uganda 5 copies; Libya 6 copies; Nigeria 16 copies;
Tunisia 8 copies; Benin 3 copies; South Africa 8 copies.

Lower Genital Tract precancer: Colposcopy, Pathology and Treatment
Albert Singer and John M. Monaghan
Assistant Author: Swee Chong Quek
344 pages, 780 illustrations, Blackwell
Science, 2000
The new second edition
of this highly-acclaimed text has been extensively revised and
expanded to provide a definitive and contemporary reference
on the subject for the gynaecologist (both in practice and in
training), the pathologist, venereologist and related health
care professional. Providing a comprehensive examination of
the applications and benefits of modern diagnostic and therapeutic
practices in managing lesions of the female lower genital tract,
the book is presented in a clear, easy-to read style and is
supported by over 780 superb full-colour photographs and line
drawings. The text covers investigative procedures and techniques,
reviews the normal and abnormal cervix and fully appraises the
diagnosis and management of both benign and malignant lesions.
Vaginal, vulvular and perianal
premalignant diseases are discussed, and a separate section
is devoted to those conditions which mimic, and can thus be
confused with, precancer. A new section on AIDS has been included
and an entire chapter on pathology and exfoliative cytology
is also incorporated.
Lower Genital Tract Precancer:
Colposcopy, Pathology and Treatment is much more than simply
a colposcopic atlas – it is a comprehensive and definitive statement
of the wide range of skills needed to diagnose and manage any,
and all, of the precancerous conditions and those which may
mimic them.
Patologia y tratamiento del
tracto genital inferior
Giuseppe De Palo, William
Chanen, Santiago Dexeus.
306 pages, 123 full colour
photographs, 48 drawings, 1071 references.
Masson Ed., Barcelona 2000.
This book in Spanish language
is directed towards those physicians in office or hospital practice,
in order to assist in the diagnosis, classification, treatment
and management of disorders of the lower female genital tract.
The entire spectrum of
these conditions is described with the clinical and histological
findings together with macroscopic, colposcopic or vulvoscopic
full-colour illustrations documenting the appearances of each
lesion.
In recent years, the explosion
in knowledge of the pathology of the lower genital tract
has been enormous and continues to grow. That is why many excellent
atlases and texts on colposcopy, cervical pathology, vulvar
disease and intraepithelial neoplasia of the lower genital tract
have been written and rewritten.
Therefore why the need
for this publication? The answer lies in the fact that this
book is an attempt to gather into the one volume cervical, vulvar
and vaginal disease, the entire pathology of the lower genital
tract. Its purpose is to provide a ready access to a clinically
orientated atlas and a text with an updated source of bibliography,
practical information with guidelines of management required
by those who care for women with these problems.
The text has been divided
into three sections according to anatomical distribution of
the lesions viz. cervix, vagina and vulva. References
are provided either in the text or in the extensive list annotated
at the end of each section. Since bibliography is so comprehensive,
when a review on a specific subject exists, this has been cited
without listing specific names. The authors apologise if some
authorities have not been specifically mentioned.
There is the expectation
that after reading this monograph, the varying lesions of the
cervix, vagina and vulva will be readily recognized, evaluated
and treated with both confidence and expertise.
From preface of the authors.
